The Complete Moving Out Cleaning Checklist

Use this checklist on handover day to make sure nothing gets missed. It's the same standard our cleaners work to.

Kitchen

• Degrease the oven, hob and extractor
• Descale the sink and tap
• Wipe inside and outside all cupboards
• Clean the fridge and freezer (defrost if needed)
• Clean the washing machine drawer and seal
• Wipe all worktops and splashbacks
• Clean the floor and skirting

Bathrooms

• Descale the toilet, bath, shower and screen
• Remove limescale from taps and showerhead
• Clean grout and silicone (check for mould)
• Wipe the mirror, tiles and window
• Clean the floor and skirting

Living areas & bedrooms

• Dust and wipe all skirting boards
• Wipe light switches, door frames and handles
• Clean internal windows and sills
• Vacuum and mop all floors
• Remove all nails, blu-tack and marks (carefully)
• Empty the loft, shed and any storage

Throughout

• Check light bulbs are working
• Remove all rubbish and recycling
• Tidy the garden and remove any rubbish
• Take meter readings
• Take timestamped photos of every room

Miss any of these and it's an easy deduction. Tick them all off — or hand it to a professional end-of-tenancy clean — and your landlord signs off first time.
